Help keep Famagusta

alive and remembered

Rotary Club of Famagusta

Famagusta Rotary Club is one of 26,000 clubs in 150 countries that belong to the Rotary Organization which has over a milion members. It was established in 1954 and since 1974 it operates in exile, in Limassol, due to the Turkish occupation of the city of Famagusta.

The Rotarians of Famagusta accepted the ideal of service as a base for attaining fulfilment in their personal vocational and community lives. The Ideal of Service above self is the thread that runs throughout the Rotary world and unites like-minded people in thought and action.

Famagusta Rotary Club undertakes a project every year. For 1993-1994 two major projects were completed. The first was a documentary about the occupied city of Famagusta. The second is the multimedia system that you have right now in front of you, which gives you the opportunity to learn about the city of Famagusta, its history, culture and natural beauty and to witness the destruction that has come upon the city since the Turkish invasion in 1974.

Rotary is the world's first Service Club organization. It is an organization of business and professional men and women who are united worldwide and aim to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
